120 victims of abuse were received

The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) received 120 victims of violence of women and children, during the third quarter of this year, included 16 cases that have been sheltered, as confirmed by HE Afra Al Basti, Director General of DFWAC.
She added that the cases included 108 cases of violence against women, and 11 cases of child abuse, while there was only one case of human trafficking victims which their numbers were significantly declined during the past years.
HE Afra Al Basti revealed that many cases were exposed to more than one type of violence, which had been 133 cases of verbal and emotional violence, 103 cases of deprivation and neglect, 86 cases of financial abuse, 80 of physical violence, and 14 cases of sexual abuse, as well as 11 cases who witnessed domestic violence.
She added that there has been more than one source of abuse in a number of cases, where 85 cases were abused by the spouse, 19 cases by the father, 7 cases by the mother, 4 cases of Brother, 3 cases by the former husband, 3 cases by other relatives, along with two cases subjected to violence by their managers at work, and one case by the stepfather.
Al Basti explained that the cases received by DFWAC during the third quarter of the year included 113 females and 7 males, and most of the cases were from the older age group of 18 years, while the number of cases of at least age groups did not exceed 12 cases.
She added that the victims came from different nationalities within the UAE, while the number of Emirati nationals did not exceed 31 cases of the total cases, noting in this context that the Foundation receives all the victims of violence and human trafficking within the UAE regardless of the nationality, color or religion.
The Director General of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children said: “In addition to the victims of violence, the DFWAC received during the third quarter of this year, 153 other humanitarian cases of those who were in need of consultation or financial aid or other cases that have been forwarded to the foundation from others.”
She added that about 89 cases asked for help from DFWAC directly either through the helpline 800 111, or via e-mail help@dfwac.ae or SMS 5111, or directly by coming to the foundation, while other cases have been transferred to DFWAC by Dubai police, courts, and prosecutors as well as friends and relatives of the cases.
Al Basti pointed out that the number of the received victims of violence who during this period has seen a slight increase compared to the same period last year, in which DFWAC received 115 victims of violence from various groups, along with 166 other humanitarian cases.
She added that the Foundation provides all its services for the victims of violence, free of charge, which include care and rehabilitation services, shelter, legal and educational services, as well as medical care and rehabilitation for the jobs market, calling on everyone to support the Foundation’s efforts, whether by providing financial support through the Emirates Charity Gate www.ecp.ae or through their contribution in spreading awareness on the cause of violence against women and children through the social communication and the media in general.
She emphasized that DFWAC is working in the same frame on the prevention of all forms of violence against women and children through awareness programs and campaigns carried out, adding that the next month will see the launch of the “Orange campaign” for the second year in a row to reduce violence against women in conjunction with the Global Campaign of the United Nations.
“Cases are directed to DFWAC through self-admission or  calling the hotline, or from our partners such as public prosecution, the courts, the various departments and sections of the police, embassies and consulates, other shelters and other helplines in other emirates,” she added.
“A comprehensive evaluation is made for the case and then is accepted as an external case or an internal case that requires immediate shelter at the foundation, then a case manager is allocated to follow all the procedures and then take the history of the abuse suffered by the case, and put a support plan for the case to be implemented and evaluated periodically,” Al Basti said.
“After that we develop a plan of transition to prepare the case for integration back into the community, and there is also another plan we create to ensure the safety of the case, and last develop a plan to follow up with the case for six months,” She added.
Director General of DFWAC also said that the foundation provides many services to the victims of violence such as helpline 800 111, emergency shelter, supporting services and it also provides a customized rehabilitation plan for all problems and cases which are divided to external and internal or sheltered cases.
“The provided services for external cases varies from offering family consultation, psychotherapy services, and also legal consultations besides providing other humanitarian services that aims to promote the feeling of safety  to the victims,” she added.
And regarding the sheltered or internal cases Al Basti said: “the provided services for this category varies from offering housing service to the abused cases which includes food, drinks, clothes and ongoing medical care services besides supervision on the case, but also includes educational services and others like awareness, entertainment and social services to the cases who were also offered psychotherapy and legal services that includes following up with their legal cases and representing them in front of judicial authorities”.
