Ramadan Women's Sports Tournament

SHARJAH 5 May 2019: The Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) has announced the competition schedule of the 11th edition of Ramadan Women’s Sports Tournament (RWST) which will be held from May 8-14.

The one-week competition will see the participation of 340 female athletes from 25 teams competing in four sports:

  • 4 teams from basketball
  • 10 from volleyball
  • 7 from shooting and
  • 4 from archery

Volleyball competitions will be held from May 9 to 12, while basketball competitions will take place on May 13 and 14. Shooting contests will be held from May 9 -11, while archery competitions will take place on May 9 and 10.

  6. Italian Espera Moonves team

  10. Sharjah Police
  11. Ajman Police
  12. Ras Al Khaimah Police
  13. Fujairah Police
  14. Shkis team
  15. Elite Volleyball Academy
  16. Baniyas Sports Club
  17. Al Wasl Sports Club
  18. Sharjah Individual Games Club – Al Hazana
  19. Ravens team
  20. American University in Dubai) team and
  21. Sharjah American International School

Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director General of SWS highlighted the importance of the tournament in encouraging talents that may go on to achieve regional and global fame.

Through the annual Ramadan Tournament, SWS aims to entrench a culture of sports and physical activity during Ramadan and raise awareness among female athletes about the importance of local competitions in qualifying them to compete in regional and international events.

First-place winners of the tournament will be given cash prizes. To make the RWST experience even more enjoyable for spectators, entertainment activities and daily prize draws will be held throughout the one-week tournament.

Established in November 2016, SWS aims to empower national women athletes and develop human capital in the field of women’s sports. It also seeks to create a talented generation of women leaders in sports, encourage women’s participation in different sports, foster a culture of sports and provide a stimulating environment that contributes to advancing women’s sports.
