9th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship opens

7,000 competitors from over 100 countries are in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI 19 April 2017: The 9th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship was inaugurated  in a ceremony held at the Ipic Arena in Zayed Sports City, by Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

More than 7,000 competitors from over 100 countries are in Abu Dhabi to fight it out for world titles and a rich prize fund. All eyes will be on the championship as millions of people across the globe tune-in to watch their favourite competing athletes battle it out on the floor.

The contest will see the UAE’s ‘national treasures’ go head-to-head at this final stage of the 2016/2017 season. With this record-number of international participants from countries, athletes at all levels will be earning points towards their professional rankings.

Jiu-Jitsu provides an opportunity for UAE athletes to make more international achievements, he noted, said Wam.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Abdul Munim Al Hashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union, and a number of officials attended the opening ceremony.
