Even as Fixed Line and Web connectivity grows

DUBAI 15 January 2018: Are UAE residents tiring of mobile phones as their favourite gadget?

Active mobile phone connections in the UAE fell last year after peaking in 2016, according to the latest statistics provided by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

Fixed line connections and Internet connections, however, grew.

At the end of November last year, the UAE had just over 19.69 million active mobile subscriptions compared to 19.90 million at the end of 2016.

UAE had 2.32 million fixed line connections at the end of November 2017 against 2.28 million at the end of 2016.

In the same comparable period, active Internet connections stood at 1.34 million compared to the previous year’s 1.29 million.

There may have been a drop in the mobile subscriptions, but the UAE still has one of the most mobile-heavy populations in the world.

At the end of last year, each UAE resident had – on average – 2.24 active mobile phones. This was down from 2.29 active mobile subscriptions per resident at the end of 2016.
