Book FREE Reliance Jio phone with unlimited data

‘effective price’ of the feature phone is Rs 0

DUBAI 31 July 2017: India’s top firm, Reliance Industries, has launched its new feature phone, called as the JioPhone. The handset was introduced by company chairman Mukesh Ambani at the 40th Reliance Annual General Meeting earlier this month.

The JioPhone, as Ambani said, will be hitting the shelves in September. The company has not yet announced the exact date yet. However, you can still book your JioPhone before September, says Lapnik.

You can pre-book the JioPhone using the My JIOapp – or if you are in India or via a relative – you can visit a Jio retailer from August 24., from whenthe Reliance Jio Phone will be up for pre-orders. It will be available in September on a first-come-first-serve basis.

At the annual general meeting, Ambani said the ‘effective price’ of the feature phone is Rs 0. Users instead, will have to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500. The amount will be refunded to them after three years, which is in 2020. He says that the security deposit is to prevent the potential misuse of data.

Jio Phone runs on VoLTE network and comes with a host of pre-installed services such as JioTV and JioCinema apps. The device also has its own digital assistant along with the support for voice commands. It also comes with support for 24 Indian languages.

Reliance says that users can long press on the ‘5’ key to directly call their near and dear ones. Furthermore, the company will bring NFC feature on Jio-branded phones as well later this year. The feature will arrive as part of a software update.

The device was announced alongside a few low-priced Jio 4G plans at the Reliance Industries AGM. On the Jio Phone, voice calls will always remain free, said Ambani.

Users will also get access to unlimited data on the device. These, in addition to Jio apps (Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan plan) will cost users Rs 153 per month.
