Cabinet approves ‘National Policy on Vaccinations’

DUBAI 8 September 2020: The the National Policy on Vaccinations, has been approved by the UAE Cabinet, which was chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The policy is a multi-sectoral national framework for combating communicable diseases and reducing their risks to individuals and society.

It will act as a coordination framework for all parties involved in the immunisation field, in order to support the health system in the country and enhance the efficiency of provided services, said official news agency Wam.

It also aims to bring together the non-governmental sector and community members to support the UAE’s fight against communicable diseases by promoting a healthy lifestyle; as well as ensure the delivery of the best quality of vaccination services and preventive care nationwide.

Some of the most important objectives of the National Policy on Vaccinations is to make vaccines widely available, ensure their sustainability and quality, raise awareness on their importance, and support innovation and research in the field. It also includes policies on safeguarding public health during health emergencies and disease outbreaks.

The policy also aims to enhance the country’s position as a regional and international healthcare hub, in light of its development of a comprehensive and sustainable health system, and through ensuring the provision of the best quality immunisation services in compliance with international safety practices.

Roadmap for country’s health system: Al Owais

Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, stated that the adoption of a national immunisation policy is part of a preventive health roadmap that guarantees sustainability and efficiency in countering communicable diseases.

In his statement on this occasion, Al Owais stressed that the policy represents a milestone in the planning and drafting of related policies that ensure health security, which is a national priority of the UAE, through the continuing cooperation between all relevant national authorities and the entire community.

He added that Ministry of Health and Prevention will provide the necessary resources to achieve the outcomes and indexes related to the policy, in coordination with the country’s health authorities as a single national team, to ensure the provision of the best immunisation services and provide quality vaccines that comply with the highest international standards and national safety practices.

470 new cases, 438 recoveries, 2 deaths

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), announced Monday that it conducted 57,506 additional Covid-19 tests over the past 24 hours.

MoHAP announced 470 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases in the UAE to 74,454.

MoHAP also announced two deaths due to Covid-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 390.

MoHAP also noted an additional 438 individuals had fully recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 66,533.
