DUBAI 14 October 2018: Dubai Police miraculously rescued a disabled person, whose runaway car was speeding at 140 km/h. The driver could not stop the car as the pedal was stuck.

In a complicated operation that required quick thinking and rapid action, the command and control team of the Dubai Police General Operations Department saved the life of a citizen whose vehicle was speeding in Sharjah along Emirates Road.

Tip Off

A communiqué was received from the operations room of Sharjah Police at around 4.50 pm first on Friday by Dubai command and control centre, that a car was coming from Sharjah towards Dubai along  Emirates Road at the speed of 140 km/h.

Dubai Police managed to call the citizen’s driver and began to calm him down. They then proceeded to give him instructions on how to deal with the situation.

Meanwhile, two patrol cars were sent within seconds to the same point to clear the road in front.

The Task Force at the command and control center, after being able to calm down the driver, began to point out solutions to be carried out for his safety and to stop the car.

How it was Stopped

They had earlier asked the driver to close and open the ignition repeatedly. Pulling the handbrake was not a technical solution. However, all attempts failed and the driver started to panic. He suggested ramming into a road block or another vehicle until his car stopped, but the task force quietened him down and told him that they will not leave him till they had saved him and assured his safety.

One of the officers at the command and control center presented a solution, assigning one of the two patrols to drive in front of the runaway car at the same speed as the car.

The patrol car then braked with extreme caution till the car behind slowed down and the driver managed to stop.

Dubai Police called on drivers to exercise caution and to ensure that they check the safety of their car.
