Driver Alert: No more mid-day free parking in Sharjah

Parking fees will apply in the emirate from 8am to 10pm from April 1

DUBAI 27 March 2017: It is not an April Fool’s prank – Sharjah is serious about removing the 1pm to 5pm free parking currently allowed during working days and Saturdays – from 1st April.

Parking fees will apply in the emirate from 8am to 10pm.

However, free parking is available on Fridays and public holidays.

Sharjah Municipality has announced the implementation of the decision of the Sharjah Municipal Council to cancel free public parking in the afternoon in all areas of the city.

Salem Al Suwaidi, Assistant General Manager of Sharjah Municipality’s Customer Service Department said that the municipality is seeking to deal with the problem of lack of available positions and rising number of vehicles. It aims to reduce parking for long periods and random parking, which makes it difficult to find spaces, according to Al Bayan.

Atef Al Zarouni, Director of Public Parking Department, said drivers can pay parking fees by sending an SMS to 5566, or buying annual, semi-annual and quarterly subscription services to all areas subject to fees in the city and to specific areas.

This service is provided through the service centers in the main building in the Musalla area, the public parking management buildings and the management of the suburban municipalities in the 5th industrial zone.
