Pretty Dubai Customs ‘Android Inspector’ is ‘Best World Idea’

Dubai Customs only government entity in world to win such accolade

DUBAI 14 April 2017: Dubai Customs (DC) won the best idea at the World Ideas Awards 2016, organized in Frankfurt, Germany on 28 and 29 March 2017.

This makes Dubai Customs the only government department in the world to win such a reputable accolade.

Ideas were gathered from different organizations during 2016 and submitted to an international jury to select one single idea as the World’s Big Idea in 2016.

DC’s idea will help in the transition towards having more artificial intelligence in the workplace by using the smart android robots to replace humans in routine tasks.

Android Inspector

Dubai Customs android robot inspector is the first of its type in the world. The new model is now being developed to have UAE local look and features.

Commenting on the new breakthrough, Sultan bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman & CEO and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation said: “It’s no stranger to Dubai Customs to innovate and come up with new winning ideas within its efforts and journey to facilitate trade and movement of cargo and passengers”.

Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs reaffirmed the Department’s keenness in keeping the pace moving forward and supporting innovation at the workplace.

“We have gone long way in the innovation journey to facilitate trade and reduce time and effort to enable passengers and traders to enter their cargo easily and in a short time. We have many innovations to boast including the risk engine, the smart container inspection system, Al Kashif Vehicle, and the android robot inspector, among many others”.

On his part, Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence at Dubai Customs said:” The Department encourages new ideas and adopts the best work practices to help Dubai maintain such a high status. This award urges us to keep the good work in order to always be an example to follow as a world leading customs administration”.

Hussain Al Fardan, Senior Manager of Dubai Customs’ Innovation Center explained that the winning idea was the fruit of a brainstorming session organized by the Innovation Center to all idea owners on robots. They all worked collectively to originate such a wonderful unique robot which can be equipped with advanced tracking and inspection technology”.
