DUBAI 12 April, 2017: The centre of Dubai World Expo 2020 – Al Wasl Plaza – will consist of a vibrant urban park surrounded by several mixed-use buildings that will open in 2020.
The public space will match the world’s most famous public spaces, to serve as a global destination for local and international events of various sizes, according to Ahmed Al Khatib, Vice-President of Development and Real Estate Delivery at Expo 2020 Dubai.
In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (Wam), he said Adrian Smith Gordon Gill Architecture was chosen after a highly selective competition among the world’s most prestigious architects to design the central plaza.
With the Al Wasl Plaza project, Dubai has opened its doors to the second generation of world-class construction projects.
Al Wasl Plaza is a dynamic, urban, cultural, environmental, tourism, educational and recreational destination for future generations, which will be completed by the end of 2019. It is a distinctive project that will place the UAE and Dubai at the forefront of unique destinations.
The plaza, which combines the beauty of its design with the latest trends in innovative technology, will be a key venue during Expo 2020 Dubai, where people from all walks of life will come together to connect minds.
This is the aspiration of the first expo that will be held the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. It will also be the focal point between the areas of the event’s three themes of opportunities, movement and sustainability, as well as the main alternative route linking Dubai Metro to the UAE Pavilion through seven entrances.
