Dubai is launchpad for Global Knowledge Index; Swiss top

Literacy Challenge Initiative launched

DUBAI 22 November 2017: The Global Knowledge Index was launched in Dubai yesterday during the Knowledge Summit in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Switzerland topped the Global Knowledge Index, which has been launched by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and United Nations Development Programe (UNDP). The Index is the first of its kind in the world and has enlisted 140 countries, offering a platform to exchange insight and expertise. It is set to contribute to economic and social development strategies around the world, enrich the knowledge movement, and serve as a roadmap for the sustainable development of human societies.

Sheikh Mohammed also attended the launch of “Literacy Challenge Initiative”, which targets 30 million Arabs by 2030. The initiative is a collaboration between MBRF, Unesco and UNDP.

The fourth edition of the Knowledge Summit, organised by MBRF under the theme ‘Knowledge and Fourth Industrial Revolution’,  is being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of MBRF and Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also attended the event.

At the end of the opening session, Crown Prince of Dubai, along with the chairman of MBRF, honored the winners of the third edition of MBRF Awards.
