Dubai Municipality drains rainwater in record time

DUBAI: Dubai Municipality deployed 5,000 workers, 48 tanks and 95 suction pumps to drain out rainwater in record time.

The Ghaith Dubai team that supervises the storm water drainage worked hard to remove all effects of the rain water and succeeded in facilitating the traffic movement on the streets of the emirate as well as sucking out the water from the streets that are not covered by the remote network, said Wam.

Talib Julfar, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality for Environment and Public Health Services Sector and team leader of Ghaith Dubai said , “We had been prepared to deal with the emergency situations as well as incident reports due to unstable weather, based on the meteorological reports and rain forecast.”

“Emergency teams were working round the clock in all areas of the emirate equipped with working and safety tools for clearing storm water pools and the removal of sand, in addition to covering the reports on traffic accidents during the period of rainfall,” he added.

He pointed out that the team mobilized some 5,000 workers from the departments of Sewage Treatment Network, Waste Management, Horticulture and Public Parks and the Storm Water Drainage Stations Network, and arranged 48 tanks for the areas not served by the network, 35 tanks in Dubai city alone and the rest in the countryside.

“An emergency plan was prepared quickly and suction pumps were distributed in Jumeirah, Al Quoz Industrial area, Muhaisnah and Al Aweer so as to remove water from the streets in areas where there are drainages. Also some 95 suction pumps were distributed to drain the water faster,” said Julfar.

Julfar said that 265 locations were affected and the team responded to 22 complaints of water logging.
