Eid traffic congestion at main roads in Abu Dhabi

abide by traffic laws to ensure safety, says police

ABU DHABI 27 June 2017: The main roads in Abu Dhabi witnessed traffic congestion during Eid Al Fitr, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Directorate General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police said.

As part of “Your Safety Our Happiness” awareness campaign, it called on motorists to abide by the traffic laws to ensure safety, said Wam.

Brigadier General Ahmed Al Shehhi, deputy director of the directorate, advised drivers to observe mandatory speed limit, pay attention to road surprises, leave enough distance between vehicles, ensure drivers and passengers fasten their seat belts, well as taking rest when feeling tired at any stage of the journey, and turn on hazard lights to warn other vehicles coming from the same direction.

Al Shehhi also urged motorists to adhere to the safety procedures before the beginning of the journey by checking the vehicle thoroughly and ensuring its safety in terms of mechanical safety, inspection of tyres and using of high-quality tyres, and avoiding the use of counterfeit tyres that cause the tyre explosion accidents due to high temperature.

He referred to the presence of the traffic patrols at the highways daylong to provide safety, especially on the Abu Dhabi-Al-Ghuwaifat Road, which is witnessing the traffic congestion for those leaving and coming to and from the neighbouring countries to spend the summer vacation.

Al Shehhi urged the drivers to enhance efforts to maintain their safety through their compliance to the traffic law.

He cited dangers posed by using cell-phones to reply messages of greeting or call while driving. This leads to traffic accidents, resulting in deaths and serious injuries, he said, calling for more cooperation with the traffic patrols to ensure safe access to destinations.
