DUBAI 8 October 2018: British national Francis Matthew, former Editor of Gulf News had his jail term extended by the Dubai Appeals Court on Sunday.

At the end of March  the Dubai Court of First Instance has convicted Francis for bludgeoning Jane, his wife of 30 years, to death with a hammer at their Dubai home in Jumeirah on July 3/4th 2017.

He was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Francis appealed the sentence and has now had his jail term extended to 15 years.

Initially Francis has told police that burglars had broken into their home and killed his wife.

Later, he said he had hit her on the head as she lay in bed with a hammer as he was outraged by her calling him a loser. He later hid the hammer, which was found by the police.
