See first ‘driverless’ Dubai Taxi… and more @ Gitex

DUBAI 14 October 2018: Gitex will witness the test run of the first ‘autonomous or driver-less taxi’ in the region.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced a host of smart initiatives and services at Gitex 2018. The event will also witness the Customers Loyalty Program ‘Nol Plus’. Exhibits include Dubai Metro spare parts manufactured through 3D printing, AI-based automated Chat Bot system, Robotic Cleaners for Dubai Metro stations along with a diverse cast of other smart initiatives.

Autonomous Taxi

RTA will start the test run of the first ‘autonomous taxi’ designed in partnership with Dubai Silicon Oasis and DG World for robots and artificial applications. The vehicle, which will be tentatively run on dedicated routes at the Dubai Silicon Oasis, has top safety and security standards. It is equipped with cameras and sensors that fully view traffic and road conditions, control the vehicle and avoids collision.

DoT AD showcases self-driving vehicle

ABU DHABI: The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, will present self-driving vehicle. The self-driving vehicles are an environment-friendly project.

In addition, DoT will showcase Abu Dhabi Integrated Automated Vehicles Management Enterprise Platform Project. The platform will track suitably equipped commercial vehicles and will be linked to the existing AVM Systems operated by DoT and different key stakeholders.

One central dashboard will allow the system users to supervise buses, hire cars, school transport buses and others, said Wam.

The project is planned to be activated by the end of 2019. The operational capacity of real-time monitoring the performance of 10,000 vehicle during the project’s first phase. It has also been determined that local workforces will be trained to supervise and execute the project for any future improvements.

The new applications that are used in the transport sector is one of the main factors of facilitating the daily lives. DoT’s participation at the exhibition comes as part of its continuous efforts to improve the sustainable transport network in Abu Dhabi to serve the public.
