Food prices dip 2.22% in Dubai; has your grocery bill come down?

Dubai's consumer price index up 1.01% in Q1 2017

DUBAI 3 May 2017: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Dubai shows a drop of 2.22 per cent in food prices in the first quarter of this year.

However, the overall CPI rose 1.01 per cent in the first quarter of 2017 as compared to the same period last year, according to data released by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC).

A DSC report attributed the increase in the CPI to the rise in prices of the group of miscellaneous goods and services by 13.73 per cent, transport by 3.71 per cent, restaurants and hotels by 0.73 per cent, health by 0.56 per cent and housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.34 per cent and clothes and footwear by 0.18 per cent.

The report said the prices of tobacco, food and drinks, culture and entertainment, furniture, furnishing and home appliances and their repair and communications showed a decrease of 5.34 per cent, 2.22 per cent, 0.22 per cent, 0.19 per cent and 0.04 per cent respectively.

The consumer prices of the education group remained unchanged,” the report noted.
