GCC petrochem industry annual production crosses $102.6 billion

Patent grants from the GCC in chemistry have seen a five-fold increase in the last decade, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Producing up to $102.6 billion worth of products a year, petrochemical industry is a main generator of patents from Gulf region along IT and electronics.

“The petrochemical industry in the Gulf is of global standards where there is an active research and development machine driving this lucrative industry to be more innovative and globally competitive, says Satish Khanna, General Manager, Al Fajer Information and Services, while announcing developments of ArabPlast, the world’s leading plastics and petrochemical show, which is set to hold its 13th edition from 8 – 10 January 2017 at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre spread over nine Halls.

“Innovation will be a key topic at our bi-annual plastics and petrochemical event that is considered one of the biggest three plastics shows in the world. The specialised show will provide updates into petrochemical industry, and will witness the largest participation in its history, with expectations of display of high end machineries from Asia and Europe,” he added.

Petrochemicals industry remains one of three industries where patent applications filings are concentrated in. Other sectors are information technology and pharmaceuticals.

Past editions of ArabPlast saw display of over 150 containers of machineries, which makes ArabPlast the largest machinery trade exhibition in the Middle East. The upcoming edition is set to witness even further expansion, with the region still dominating the petrochemical industry on the global platform.

“ArabPlast 2017 has attracted a wide array of petrochemical and plastics companies. Leading companies of plastics and rubber industry participate in the show to unveil ground-breaking product solutions, cutting-edge technologies, and revolutionary ideas. Also, we anticipate a series of international alliances at the show in its upcoming edition,” he said

Jointly organised by Al Fajer Information and Services, and Germany’s Messe Dusseldorf, ArabPlast has served over the years as the best platform to unveil new products, witness updates of the industry, open communication channels with industry peers, and meet global decision makers in the plastics industry. The event is annually supported by global companies from the region and the world; all of them are considered the largest manufacturers of petrochemicals globally.

On display at ArabPlast 2017 will be new products and technologies in injection molding, blow molding, wrapping and packaging, pre and post plastic processing techniques as well as raw materials, such as additives and polymers. The show covers a wide spectrum of plastic machinery, plastic/rubber processing technology, pre and post-processing systems, plastic packaging technology, injection molding, blow molding, wrapping technology, extrusions, chemicals and additives, semi-finished goods, engineering plastics and plastic products.
