In a rare legal case, a girl from another Gulf country has filed a court case to seek official recognition of her as a male after undergoing a sex correction operation.
The court is to hear the case on Sept 28 and the girl’s lawyer believes the operation is legal in line with federal laws in the UAE.
Emarat Alyoum daily quoted the lawyer Ali Al Mansouri as saying such operations were approved by the General Islamic and Endowments Affairs Authority in 2013 provided they are intended for correction and the person is suffering from congenital flaws.
He said the unnamed girl started to feel such problems in her body when she was five years old as she preferred to play with boys instead of girls.
