The record attempt took place over the three days

Dubai 10 April 2017: Global authority on record-breaking, Guinness World Records, has verified that the Guinness World Records title for the ‘Largest Stencil’ has been broken for the very first time in Dubai, at the Middle East Film and Comic Con.

The Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC), is the region’s biggest pop culture convention that launched in 2012. The multi-genre convention is held annually in Dubai and is the first and largest of its kind in the Middle East. This is the first time that Guinness World Records has partnered with the Middle East Film and Comic Con, which took place from the 6th-8th of April 2017.

The record attempt, that took place over the three days of MEFCC, was broken through a collaborative effort between Iconix, an online emporium offering a wide range of art in the UAE, ProWalls; a commission of international artists with a focus on community art and UAE Graffiti Team a group of local contemporary artists who have partnered with ProWalls to produce this artwork.

The collaborative artwork resulted in the production of a11.13 sq m stencil artwork, which was put together by four artists from ProWalls and two members of the UAE Graffiti group.

The artwork, which was produced through the use of mixed media included airbrush, spray gun, and laser-cut stencils, to produce a 5-layer stencil, which depicted the Dubai skyline with 9 of the most famous superheroes including batman and superman.

This is not the first time ProWalls has been involved in breaking a Guinness World Records title. In 2014, ProWalls was involved in creating the Guinness World Records title for the ‘Largest graffiti scroll’ and again in 2016 when they participated in creating the ‘Largest glow in the dark painting’

Sam Gauche, a member of ProWalls said: “Ever since I was 7, I dreamt of breaking a Guinness World Record and by involving members of the community in these attempts I hope to allow others to live their dreams and be a part of something as amazing as breaking a world record.”

Commenting on the record breaking attempt, Leila Issa, Guinness World Record’s Marketing Manager – MENA, said: “Guinness World Records is proud to acknowledge such amazing artwork and is always seeking to celebrate incredible talent. Recognizing potential and encouraging people to explore their talents is at the heart of Guinness World Records’ values and we are always ready to support individuals looking to challenge themselves and live ‘officially amazing’ experiences.”
