DUBAI 4 May 2018: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has issued a circular to concerned local authorities to ensure that the country’s markets are free of Salmonella contaminated eggs originating from a farm in the US state of North Carolina, ‘Rose Acre Farms.’
Entities responsible for implementing the circular include the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and the municipalities of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Qaiwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
The decision is based on the findings of an investigative report following the warning issued by the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA, and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, regarding illnesses traced back to the Rose Acre egg production farm in Hyde County, North Carolina. Rose Acre Farms recalled over 200 million eggs from nine US states, in addition to nine countries, including the UAE, said Wam.
The ministry asked concerned departments not to provide import permits for eggs from Rose Acre Farms and Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. if they carry the codes listed on the FDA website. The ministry urges UAE consumers not to eat any US-made eggs from the aforesaid farm that are subject to the recall, and encourages them to return them or get rid of them.

In its statement the Ministry went on to say it will spare no effort to provide healthy and safe food to consumers in accordance with best international practices in order to enhance consumer confidence in the safety of food traded in the country.
“The ministry works relentlessly to achieve its strategic objectives in promoting food safety and sustainability of local production in line with the UAE Vision 2021. The UAE places the highest priority on food safety and relies on stringent control systems with regard to imported food in order to protect consumer health,” it concluded.
