Heavy Fog Alert: Be careful driving to work

ABU DHABI 16 January 2018: The National Centre of Meteorology (NMC) has urged motorists to exercise caution due to the possibility of fog formations from 10 pm last night until 9:30 am Tuesday.

The centre said that visibility is predicted to be less than 500 metres at times over some inland and coastal areas.

NCM has warned seafarers in the Arabian Gulf from fresh winds. Wave heights will be 6-8 feet reaching 12 feet from 3:00 am Tuesday morning until 3:00 am Wednesday.

NCM said the weather will be humid overnight and during early morning with fog formation across much of the country. Skies will become partly cloudy and hazy during the day on Tuesday.

The wind will be light to moderate southeasterly to northwesterly in general, becoming fresh northwesterly by Tuesday morning over the sea and extending inland during the afternoon with chance of rising dust, with speed 10 to 25 km/hr. Wind speeds may reach 30 km/hr on Monday, becoming 20 to 35 km/hr by Tuesday and may reach 50 km/hr over the sea.

The sea state will start light to moderate during Monday, becoming rough to very rough at times over the Arabian Gulf by Tuesday and moderate in the Gulf of Oman.

The NCM added that from Wednesday to Friday, weather will be fair to partly cloudy in general, while continuing humid overnight and in the early morning. The chances of fog and mist formation will decrease and may restricted to only a few areas on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

The wind on Wednesday will be fresh Northwesterly at first becoming light to moderate easterly to northeasterly by Wednesday afternoon. with speeds of 10 -25 km/hr and may reach 40 km/hr over the sea during the day, causing rough seas. It will drop to light to moderate by Wednesday night over the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate over the Gulf of Oman.
