Latest library trends to be explored at the 3rd American library association conference

The latest issues and most topical developments relating to library services will be under discussion at the third edition of the American Library Association (ALA) conference, which takes place at Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) on November 8-10. The event, being held at the world’s third largest book fair that is currently underway at Expo Centre Sharjah, is the only ALA conference outside the United States.

Included in the ALA conference programme are sessions geared towards stakeholders working in a variety of library fields. The seminars and presentation include ‘Cataloging Non-Book Material in RDA: Arabic and Other Languages,’ ‘Creating Your Institutional Research Repository,’ Research Writing and Research Impact Measures: What Librarians Need to Know’ and ‘School Libraries Sharing: Success and Struggles.’

The three-day ALA conference will bring together academics, library professionals, educators and all those who have an interest in book cataloguing and library activities. Organisers of the event say that the annual forum has never been more relevant in the digital era, which is changing the landscape of publication archiving and retrieval.

SIBF 2016 runs from November 2-12 at Expo Centre Sharjah. Themed ‘Read More,’ the 35th edition of the annual event, which was officially inaugurated yesterday (Wednesday) by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, is hosting 1,681 publishing houses from 60 countries.
