UAE, GCC denounce Lebanese FM’s statements

ABU DHABI 19 May 2021: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has strongly decried the derogatory and racist statements made by caretaker Lebanese Foreign Minister, Charbel Wehbe, against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other GCC States.

The Lebanese ambassador to the UAE was summoned by the MoFAIC and handed over a note of protest denouncing the Lebanese minister’s remarks, which, the ministry affirmed, fly in the face of all diplomatic norms and are inconsistent with the historical relations between Lebanon and all GCC states, said Wam.

Saudi Arabia strongly denounces disgraceful statements

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned and denounced derogatory statements made by the caretaker Lebanese Foreign Minister, Charbel Wehbe, during a TV interview on Monday regarding the Kingdom and its citizens.

In a statement on Tuesday carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi foreign ministry said the disgraceful remarks were also directed against Gulf Cooperation Council member states apart from Saudi Arabia and its people.

The foreign ministry said that these statements are inconsistent with the simplest diplomatic norms and are inconsistent with the historical relations between the two countries.

Given the fallout that the derogatory statements may have on bilateral relations, the ministry summoned the Lebanese ambassador to the Kingdom to express the Kingdom’s rejection and denunciation of the remarks made by the Lebanese foreign minister.

The Lebanese ambassador was handed over a demarche in this regard.

Kuwait condemns gross slander against GCC states

KUWAIT: Kuwait on Tuesday expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of the gravely abusive remarks of the Lebanese caretaker Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe against the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and their peoples.

In a statement carried out by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Foreign Ministry said that Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majdi Al Thufairi summoned today the charge d’affairs of the Lebanese embassy in Kuwait Hadi Hashim and handed him an official protest note including Kuwait’s condemnation and denunciation of the Lebanese minister offenses which contradict the sisterly relations between Lebanon and the GCC states.

Bahrain condemns offensive statements against Saudi Arabia, GCC states

MANAMA: Bahrain strongly condemned the offensive statements made by the Lebanese Foreign Minister in the caretaker government, Charbel Wehbe, during a television interview against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its people and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

According to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the Foreign Ministry stressed that these statements are inconsistent with basic diplomatic norms and contradict the fraternal relations that bind the peoples of the GCC states with the brotherly Lebanese people.

In response to these offensive statements, the Foreign Ministry summoned the Lebanese Ambassador to Bahrain and handed him an official protest note that included the Kingdom’s rejection and denunciation of the offensive statements made by the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs.
