5 women passengers hurt

DUBAI 18 September 2018: Two people – one man and a woman – died and five others were injured with minor to moderate injuries in a traffic accident yesterday.

The crash took place on Sheikh Rashid Street on the way to Dubai before the Garhoud Tunnel, said Dubai Police.

Brigadier Ali Ghanem, Director of Al Muraqqabat police station, said that the command and control center in the General Directorate of Operations received a message at 9:32 pm that a traffic accident occurred on Sheikh Rashid Street.

Police patrols and rescue teams immediately moved to the scene to find that a minibus carrying seven people, along with the driver, had crashed as a result of the explosion in one of the tyres.

The driver lost control and the bus collided with the cement barrier and a lighting pole, resulting in the immediate death of a man and a woman. Four women were slightly injured and one was moderately injured.

They were taken to Rashid Hospital in Dubai.

Brigadier General Ali Ghanem ordered the drivers to maintain safety of the vehicles and check them periodically and repair the faults, especially with regard to tyres.
