Sharjah Civil Defence contains huge blaze @ Hamriyah Port

SHARJAH 14 May 2017: The Sharjah Civil Defence brought under control a huge fire that started in a ship bearing a Panama flag at Hamriyah Port on Saturday morning, according to a statement issued by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau.

The statement said the efforts of the Sharjah Civil Defence personnel, the Coast Guards, and the management of Al Hamriyah Port were united in successfully controlling the fire.

A worker was killed, while four others were injured in the fire. The injured workers were transferred to a hospital, where they were reported to be stable.

The ship was carrying diesel and oil products.

Col. Sami Al Naqbi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, said that firefighters contained the fire within 40 minutes. They also controlled the diesel from spilling into the sea and preventing any further pollution.

Col. Al Naqbi appreciated the efforts of the Civil Defence personnel of Ajman and Umm Al Qaiwain, who joined the Sharjah Civil Defence in containing the fire. He also praised the highly-qualified civil defence staff in Sharjah, who skilfully and professionally dealt with the blaze.
