Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif steps down… for life?

unanimous Supreme Court's disqualification verdict

ISLAMABAD 29 July 2017: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stepped down yesterday after the country’s Supreme Court dismissed him on corruption charges against his family.

The court asked National Accountability Bureau to file references against the Prime Minister, his children, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Muhammad Safdar on the basis of JIT report in six weeks time, according to Radio Pakistan, said Wam.

Election Commission of Pakistan has been asked to de-notify the prime minister from his National Assembly seat to fulfill the technicalities of implementing the order.

According to the BBC the five-member Supreme Court bench was unanimous in its verdict, which has banned Nawaz Sharif from holding public office for life.

His supporters say he will use all channels to clear his name.
