MANAMA 9 June 2017: Showing sympathy or any form of favouritism toward Qatar on social media or through any other means is a crime punishable by law in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahraini Interior Ministry warned.
In a statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency, BNA, the ministry said the measures come in line with the firm stance taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain and other Gulf and Arab nations to sever diplomatic ties with Qatar as a result of its hostile acts against Bahrain, its violation of Gulf and Arab values and breach of the principles of international law, said Wam.
“As a sovereign right of Bahrain, any show of sympathy or favouritism for the Qatar government or objection to Bahrain’s action on the social media in the form of tweets, posts or any spoken or written word will be considered a crime punishable under the Penal Code and will lead to a jail term of up to five years and fine,” said the statement.
Bahrain warns media from publishing pro-Qatar views
Ministry of Information Affairs of Bahrain has warned media to comply with the Kingdom’s declared position, and to avoid publication or circulation of anything that affects Bahrain’s highest interest intended by the measures and the political decisions taken by Bahrain and Gulf, Arab and other countries in relation to Qatar.
The ministry in a statement today warned the media not to publish or circulate anything that condones or justifies Qatari policies by any means, according to Bahrain News Agency.

JEDDAH: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has chosen, all along its history, solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to conserve religion, Arab identity, coexistence and tolerance and preserve its entity and good neighborliness.
In a statement made upon his arrival in Jeddah on Wednesday, and carried by the Saudi Press Agency, King Hamad expressed delight at meeting the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to discuss latest regional developments and express thanks and appreciation for supporting the security and stability of Bahrain in confronting the flagrant Qatari and Iranian interference over centuries.
“The Qatari leadership’s interference, which targeted other Arab and Islamic countries, left us with no option but to take measures”, the Bahraini King said.
He urged the Qatari leadership “to reconsider its policies and honor its commitments to avert chaos and end all subversive practices which threaten the security and safety of our countries and jeopardise the unity of our societies”.
King Hamad said that relations would then be reinstated “for the good of our dear brethren in Qatar and for us all.”
