Rain Alert: 154 crashes in Dubai in just 10 hours

DUBAI 12 December 2019: Brigadier Saif Muheir Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, called on road users to be careful and cautious, and not to go out except in cases of necessity to avoid accidents.

He warned about the low visibility due to heavy rains and winds, stressing that residents should drive with caution and slowly.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei said that Dubai Traffic has intensified patrols to manage traffic, which was slow due to water logging in a number of areas from the heavy rainfall.

Many streets were closed and traffic diverted to alternative roads. Police also secured vehicles involved in accidents, or which broke down on the road.

Colonel Turki bin Faris, Director of the Command and Control Center in the General Operations Department, said that the center had received 4,581 calls starting from 12 midnight until 10:00 Tuesday morning, and 154 traffic accidents were recorded.

Colonel Turki bin Faris appealed to all drivers and road users to be cautious, careful and alert when weather fluctuations, to drive vehicles calmly and cautiously, and to avoid speed due to the country’s exposure to heavy rains and winds, which could lead to loss of control of the vehicle and accidents.
