NCM issues weather warning for seafarers

ABU DHABI 17 December 2017: The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), has issued a warning, calling on individuals to take precaution while on the sea until 10:00 am on Sunday, 17th December.

According to a statement by the centre, towering clouds formation associated with rainfall, fresh wind and rough sea in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will occur during this period. Reported wind speeds in the Arabian Gulf are at 35 – 45 km/hr, reaching 45 – 55 km/hr in case of cloud activity, said Wam.

Wave heights range from four to six feet, reaching six to nine feet in case of cloud activity, the National Centre of Meteorology added.

Unstable conditions continue

NCM predicted unstable weather conditions for the UAE with a possibility of rainfall of different intensity at various places in the country.

The NCM also predicted that Sunday will see more moderate to fresh winds over land, which may cause rising dust and fresh to strong winds at times over sea with clouds activity.

It urged motorists to be cautious during the rainy days as there could be poor visibility on the roads due to dust and sand.

The NCM urged motorists to observe caution while driving in the event of rainfall and low horizontal visibility conditions due to dust and dust raised with active winds. It also advised the public to avoid places of water collection, especially the places near the highlands and the places of running valleys.

The Center warned public not to venture into sea because of its turbulence in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman during this period.
