ABU DHABI 21 December 2017: The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), has urged motorists to be cautious due to fog in various areas of the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, the NCM said visibility is likely to drop to less than 1,000 metres at times over some internal areas especially westward, due to fog formation, during the period from 01:00 AM till 09:00 AM on Thursday.

Highest rainfall in Fujairah

NCM, has announced that unsettled weather conditions are expected to end on Wednesday, with less cloud and less likelihood of rain. The centre confirmed its warning of poor visibility during periods of fog formation, said Wam.

In a statement, NCM added that the weather in general will be clear, although with some cloud in some areas and with the possibility of fog in places. Temperatures are expected to increase slightly.

“The sea will be suitable for marine activities where the sea state is generally light to moderate,” the NCM’s statement said.

The recent bout of unsettled weather began last Friday, 15th December, and continued until yesterday, Tuesday 19th December, with increased low cloud cover. Some areas witnessed thunder and rainfall, with high winds in some areas causing the transport of dust and sand. Offshore, the winds caused increased wave height, reaching as high as nine feet.

The highest rainfall was recorded on the UAE’s East Coast, the Centre said, with five areas recording over 100 mm of rain, including the Port of Fujairah (137 mm), Dhadnah (126.2 mm), Foah (125.6 mm), Fujairah Airport ( 107.6 mm) and Khor Fakkan (101.6 mm).
