Resident Alert: Road changes near Ibn Batuta Mall

RTA introduces new traffic changes for Route 2020

DUBAI 23 June 2017: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated several changes in streets linked with works in progress of Route 2020 Project.

Changes include traffic diversions in several roads and streets passing through residential and commercial complexes. They also include areas under development by Nakheel Properties, especially in Ibn Battuta Street and surrounding areas. Changes are undertaken as part of works for completing Route 2020 Project.

Traffic diversions under this phase cover areas surrounding Ibn Battuta Street namely: Discovery Gardens, The Gardens, Al Furjan and other districts developed by Nakheel Properties.

The traffic diversions result in reducing the number of lanes from three to two in each direction along Ibn Battuta Street between Street 2 and Street 6. Work has started in May 2017 and will continue until the project completion. Changes also include widening Street 1A parallel to Ibn Battuta Street such that it will be a dual carriageway of two lanes in each direction instead of a street of a single-lane in each direction; which will enhance the traffic flow. Works will start in August this year and continue until the project completion.

The traffic changes also include closing the entrance in the direction of Street 1A from Streets 2, 2A and 4, where water & electricity line extensions are protected. Ibn Battuta had previously been closed from Street 11 to Street 13, and a temporary U-Turn had been made at Street 11. Construction works started last March and will continue until the end of the Project.

The RTA is keen on ensuring the smooth flow of traffic on all streets and roads of the Emirate in line with its vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all, and the progress of works in all infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges and tunnels. The RTA is also committed to improving the public transport network in the city such as Route 2020 Project. It calls upon residents, visitors and businessmen in the said communities to abide by the traffic & directional signs guiding to the traffic diversions in place.
