DUBAI 17 April 2018: Dubai residents have been warned that there may be a fire – but not to be alarmed.
In a tweet, the Dubai Government Media Office said: “Please be informed that Dubai supply authority (Dusup) is planning to carry out operational testing at Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1 and it will include the normal practice of flaring of hydrocarbon gas.
“The flaring will look like a fire and will be visible to residents of the neighboring areas. These tests will be carried out for approximately two weeks starting from tonight. Please do not be alarmed.
Excess gas from underground reservoirs associated with hydrocarbons [petroleum] are burnt off in a process called ‘flaring’.
