Sikhs host multi-faith iftar at Dubai Gurudwara

DUBAI 23 May 2018: More than 100 people gathered in Gurudwara Dubai for Iftar last Monday.

Gurudwara Dubai has been hosting Iftar every year since 2013 and has welcomed not only Muslims but also communities from neighbouring churches.

It was a wonderful scene seeing people of different nationalities and of various faiths joined together and enjoying Iftar in celebration of Ramadan, said Wam.

The event was attended by dignitaries and diplomats. Among them were Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Vipul, Indian Consul General, and Paul Malik, U.S. Consul General. Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the Office of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, and also Patron of Indian Business & Professional Council, was also present.

Dr. Omar Al Muthanna, CEO of Licensing and Monitoring Sector at Community Development Authority, also attended the event. Other special guests were Abdul Hadi of Al Manar Islamic Center, Fr. Mina Hanna of Coptic Church Dubai and Fr. Tim Heanney of Christ Church Jebel Ali.

Messages of friendship and acceptance were given during the speeches and Maghrib prayers were held inside the Gurudwara premises.

Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Gurudwara, thanked everyone for always accepting Gurudwara’s Iftar invitation and looks forward to more inter-faith gatherings that will further nourish friendship among everyone.
