DUBAI 28 February 2018: The body of India’s first female superstar, Sridevi, has arrived in Mumbai to be cremated later today.
Fans are gathered in thousands outside her residence and police is managing the crowds.
Yesterday, it was approved to be handed over to her family to be taken back to Mumbai for cremation, according to Dubai authorities.
“Dubai Public Prosecution stressed that all regular procedures followed in such cases have been completed. As per the forensic report, the death of the Indian actress occurred due to accidental drowning following loss of consciousness. The case has now been closed,” said a tweet from Dubai Government Media Office.
“Dubai Public Prosecution has approved the release of the body of the Indian actress Sridevi to her family following the completion of a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of her death,” it added.
Sridevi died in Dubai earlier this week with initial reports suggesting she had died following a massive heart attack. The surmise spread as Sridevi, 54, was known to have been dependent on various drugs for a long time, to keep herself slim and attractive.

She was in Dubai – along with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter – to attend the wedding of a member of her family. Her elder daughter Jhanvi, also an actress, could not attend the wedding as the dates clashed with her shooting schedule.
