Starbucks staff finds $118,000 – and doesn’t keep it

DUBAI 24 May 2018: The Dubai Police General Command surprised Miran Karaki, a Nepalese national, who works at the Starbucks Cafe at Mall of the Emirates.

His crime was that he found a bag containing US$118,000 and some passports forgotten by a tourist at the cafe.

He handed the bag to the police, who returned it to the owner.

Col. Mohammad Aqeel Ahli, Deputy Director of the General Department of Investigation and Criminal Investigation, honoured Miran Karaki, in the presence of officials and Starbucks employees.

Col. Mohammed Aqeel said that the ceremony was part of the ‘Thank You’ initiative by the Dubai Police. He called on community members to follow suit, being an example of honesty.

Colonel Aqeel stressed the keenness of the Dubai Police General Command to honor those who assist Dubai Police.

Colonel Mohammed Aqeel presented a certificate of thanks and appreciation to Miran Karaki in recognition of his sincere efforts and constructive cooperation with the Dubai Police, which contributed to reducing crime and improving the level of work.

The city of Dubai has more than 200 nationalities living in tolerance and harmony.

Miran Karaki thanked the Dubai Police General Command, saying that this honor is a medal and a pride for him.
