The fourth edition of the Sharjah International Children’s Film Festival (SICFF) came to a close after 6 days of wonderful cinematic performances and insightful film discussions and workshops that enthralled audiences from the UAE, the region and the world. The closing ceremony was attended by critically acclaimed filmmakers, actors, celebrities, sponsors, key industry executives and media representatives.
With an eclectic array of screenings, galas, performances and green carpet experiences for all to enjoy, the six-day festival showcased international film submissions, workshops, activities and games for children and adults alike.
Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of FUNN and Director of SICFF said, “The past few days have been extraordinary. We have seen the festival unite an international community, bringing people together from all walks of life. On this important occasion, I would like to thank everyone who helped make this new chapter in Sharjah’s success story possible. I would also like to extend my appreciation and gratitude to Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah for her continuous support in making the festival a grand fiesta. As we gather here to bid a farewell to the current edition, we promise that the next edition will continue to exceed expectations.”
SICFF closed its curtains with a Gala Screening of Sophie’s Misfortune written and directed by French director Christophe Honoré. The plot revolves around a naughty little girl named Sophie, who enjoys disobeying her mother and engaging in mischievious pranks. Always insisting on having her own way, Sophie can be described as gluttonous, lazy, and even dishonest. The film’s theme of the power of goodness over mischief comes through its witty dialogue and mesmerising cinematography, which are its standout features.
On the closing day of the Festival, SICFF honoured films and filmmakers with awards in various categories.

• Best Student Film – ‘Fears’ directed by Nata Metlukh
• Best UAE Short Film – ‘My Dear Home with Love’ directed by Aisha Al Zaabi
• Best GCC Short Film – ‘Violin’ directed by Abdulaziz Alshlahei
• Best Int. Short Film – ‘I Am Sami’ directed by Kae Bahar
• Best Documentary Film – ‘Dyab’ directed by Mazin Sherabayani
• Best Feature Film – ‘Birds of Passage’ directed by Olivier Ringer
• Best Animation Film – ‘Adama’ directed by Simon Roub
A host of talented individuals were also awarded for their noteworthy efforts in supporting the Festival. The Best Media Coverage Award for the University Competition held during SICFF was awarded to Chetna Vaidyanathan, Anjali Bohra, Kshiti Agarwal and Srhuti Shah from Manipal University Dubai.
The fourth edition of the Sharjah International Children’s Film Festival served as haven for creative expression and a beacon of science, culture and art. It has not only consolidated the Emirate’s position as a creative paradise, but also provided a glimpse into other cultures and civilizations through their cinema productions.
