“Tolerance Sign” launched

The Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Tolerance launched the “Tolerance Sign”, announcing Dubai as the capital of the world for tolerance, during a press conference on Thursday at the Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa, under the theme “Tolerance Unites Us”.

“We are here today to announce the launch of the “Sign of Tolerance” and to celebrate Dubai, a city combining multiple cultures, as a symbol of tolerance. The award is open for participation from all groups from throughout the world, and will honour icons of tolerance in the areas of human thought, literacy, culture and media,” said Ahmed Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Award.

The Award, he stated, would also support creative productions, in addition to serving as a dedicated program to support youth leadership, providing them with opportunities to spread their creativity on social media, all of which is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that promotes the principles and values of tolerance and peace in the world and, as a result, contributes to stabilising the situation in Arab society and the world.

He noted that the Award would launch three initiatives on the November 16 International Day of Tolerance.

Also during the press conference, it was announced that Lojain Omran would be Ambassador of the Award, who launched the “Tolerance Sign” along with the hashtag #tolerance_unites_us in all languages, to the music of the UAE National Anthem and the dancing fountain at Burj Khalifa, which was turned on simultaneously.

Lojain expressed her happiness at being selected as Ambassador for the Award, saying, “Before being a media icon or ambassador, I am a human being. I have to have a sense of responsibility towards humanitarian issues and the community, stressing that the United Arab Emirates continuously unites the world under the banner of tolerance.”

“Through this ambassadorship, my voice will be louder, and I hope that I will play a vital role and work hand in hand with those working with the Award to deliver this humanitarian mission, whose aim is to realize and achieve acquaintances, dialogue, understanding and respect in Arab societies, hoping to strengthen the role of young leaders in the beloved UAE, as well as the Arab world,” she added.
