CHEONGJU 8 May 2018: Emirati Paralympian Abdulla Sultan Alaryan earned gold for the UAE at the Cheongju 2018 World Shooting Para Sport Championships, in South Korea, adding a new chapter to the track record of achievements made by UAE People of Determination across the international para sports scene.

Besides the individual gold, he also helped the UAE win silver in the R6 team event after heated, breathtaking competition in the global championship which brings together 400 players representing 46 countries from different parts of the world, said Wam.

The UAE Team Coach, Abdullah Al Kamali, said the UAE National Para Olympic Team is determined to secure as many gold, silver and bronze medals as possible during the world championship and keep the UAE flag flying high on the world sports scene.

Mohammed Fadel Al Hameli, Chairman of the UAE Disabled Sports Federation, said the Paralympian Champion Alaryan has indelible achievements across international Paralympian championships, noting that his recent achievement corroborates the successful strategy adopted by the federation toward People of Determination under the directives of the country’s wise leadership.

Alaryan has been a consistent medallist in the Para sport scene. His R6 gold was his first individual victory at a World Championships, and second major title since winning the event at the London 2012 Paralympics.

He hoped his victory made a statement ahead of the upcoming Paralympics, as Cheongju 2018 is the first stop on the road to Tokyo 2020.

“Of course I am happy, and I am always thinking the World Championships are the boarding pass to the Paralympic Games,” Alaryan said.

“As players we think it is important to take part in every championship and by attending and participating and competing at every championship, we are confirming that we are ready to compete at the Paralympic Games.”
