Unlicensed ‘doctors’ posing danger to lives nabbed

DUBAI 10 August 2017: Dubai Prosecution referred to the misdemeanor court two Asians for practicing dentistry without obtaining the necessary licence from concerned authorities.

Mitra Madani, Bur Dubai Public Prosecutor warned the public form seeking treatment with unlicensed doctors exposing their health and lives to danger.

The warning was made in light of arrest of two Asians who practiced medicine since 2009 without having a licence.

Madani said that a tip off was made about the dentistry clinic which was operating in a residential building without being licensed from Dubai Health Authority.

The clinic was raided and, an Asian who was treating a patient and his administrative assistant were arrested.

The raiding team also confiscated all medical equipment and medicine that were in the flat.

The ‘dentist worked as investor in 2008.

He admitted that he had worked as an assistant dentist from 2009 to 2015. Then he rented the flat which he operated as a dental clinic where he practiced the profession.

He told investigators that he used to travel every two years to his home country to bring the medical equipment and medicines needed.

He use to charge his patients not less than Dh50.

His assistant worked as assistant store keeper in a commercial company.

He agreed with the ‘dentist’ to work in the clinic as assistant dentist against Dh100 a week. He was also tasked to arrange patient’s appointments and entry.

The ‘assistant’ told investigators that the ‘dentist’ used to work only on Fridays. He used to receive at least five patients every Friday.

The ‘dentist’ is accused of practicing dentistry without being licenced and possessing medical equipment without a licence.

His ‘assistant’ is accused of criminal complicity in practicing medicine.
