DUBAI 6 December 2019: Dubai Police has confiscated 50 vehicles for drifting and reckless driving.

These “motoring menaces” put lives at risk by turning the streets into a race track, said Dubai Police.

The vehicles were spotted by police traffic patrols, and after gathering information on the motorists, appropriate legal action was taken.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, has warned against drifting and street racing as it seriously endangers the lives of everyone on the road.

“Some motorists are ignorant of the deadly consequences of drifting and racing in unauthorized places. Losing control of vehicles will result in serious injuries and increase the mortality rate. Traffic patrols are instructed to take a zero-tolerance approach to high-speed drivers taking part in illegal street races.”

Director of the General Department of Traffic stated that penalty has been intensified according to the decree No. (29) of 2015 Concerning Impoundment of Vehicles in the Emirate of Dubai.

Hefty Fines

Driving a vehicle in a way that jeopardizes the driver or other people’s lives or their safety or security will incur a fine of Dh12,000, 23 black points and impounding of the vehicle for a period of 60 days.

Motorists will also be fined for Dh12,000 and 12 black points for driving noisy vehicles which cause disturbances to residents. Running away from the traffic policeman will incur a fine of Dh10,000, 12 black points and impounding of the vehicle for 30 days.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei appealed to drivers and the people to cooperate with the police in ensuring traffic safety. He encouraged people to report any traffic violation on 901
