World’s heaviest woman – Eman – in ICU in Abu Dhabi

Short term goal is for Eman to sit with minimal to no assistance

ABU DHABI 8 May 2017: Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi issued a statement, saying Eman Ahmed Abdul Atti, an Egyptian National, was admitted to the hospital, under the care of Dr. Yassin El Shahat, Chief Medical Officer, and a multi-disciplinary team of 20 doctors including orthopaedic surgeons, cardiologists, nephrologists, gastroenterologist, plastic surgeons , physiotherapists, and dieticians amongst others.

The 37-year-old Egyptian – touted as the world’s heaviest woman at 500 kilos – had gone to Mumbai, India on February 11 for weight reduction surgery.

Now, Eman has been under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since her arrival on Thursday night and was to be moved to a suite yesterday.

She is facing several health conditions including cardiac issues (severe aortic regurgitation with query endocarditis), which is still under intensive investigation, severe urosepsis, and third degree infected bed sores.

These conditions are beside her original medical problems of obesity and other comorbidities.

The team of doctors at Burjeel Hospital is focused on improving her overall health condition and ensuring that as part of the hospital’s short term goal, Eman is able to sit with minimal to no assistance.

The family has requested that her privacy be maintained. Health updates will be provided by the hospital as available, and when approved by the family.

In India, Eman was served only liquid supplements in the hope that she drops 50 kg in 25 days, otherwise an impossible task. Simply put, she had to lose 2 kg every day to even qualify for the life-saving bariatric surgery she desperately needed.
