3 cars – on average – are seized by Dubai cops daily

DUBAI 26 March 2019: Dubai Police has revealed that 1,126 vehicles were impounded in 2018. This brings the average number of vehicles seized on a daily basis to three.

Of these 17 per cent (191 vehicles) had accumulated fines  exceeding Dh14 million.

There were 39 hit-and-run cases, which resulted in 8 deaths, 5 serious injuries, 9 medium injuries and 17 minor injuries. Dubai police said hit-and-run cases are the most difficult and challenging, especially as the perpetrator is absent.

Brigadier General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said 76 vehicles were impounded for putting the driver and others at risk, and 38 vehicles were confiscated for noisy driving. Total number of persons arrested during 2018 was 19.

Dubai Police registered almost 306 traffic violations a day (11,682 for the year) ranging from endangering the lives of others to non-compliance with the route, failure to fasten the seat belt, sudden deviation, and decorating the vehicle without authorization.

Brig. Gen. Al Jallaf said the police is strengthening its capabilities and using artificial intelligence techniques in arresting criminals and wanted persons.

Of the 19 arrested last year,  11 were taken from Jumeirah Street, 5 Al Mamzar Street, 2 in Al Khawaneej Street and 1 in the Commercial Center Street.

Licensing beautification of the car brought in over Dh12 million from 10,727 requests. Of these 3,632 applications were received electronically and 7,095 applications manually.
