ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court has jailed a number of defendants – including Emiratis – to be followed by deportation in case of expatriate residents.
It sentenced a UAE, identified as M.S.A.S, to 10 years in prison for joining the terrorist organisation, Daesh of Yemen. The court also confiscated the devices used in the crime, during which the defendant erased the stored information and data. The convict was ordered to pay the judicial expenses.
The Appeal Court also sentenced a Jordanian national, identified as T.H.M to three years in prison with an Dh500,000 fine. It also ordered the confiscation of the devices found at the location of the crime. According to the court ruling, the defendant would be deported after serving the jail term.
The court also ordered the closing of websites and accounts related to the convict. He would also pay the judicial expenses and fines for insulting the state’s symbols.
It sentenced another UAE national, identified as S.A.S. to three years in prison, and ordered the confiscation of devices related to his crime. It also ordered him to pay the judicial expenses.
The court sentenced a Sudanese national, identified as A.A.A to two years in prison on charges directed against him. He was ordered to be deported after serving the jail term. He was also ordered to pay the judicial expenses.
It also sentenced a Pakistani, identified as A.A.S. to one year in prison, and ordered to be deported at the end of his prison sentence. The court also confiscated the devices related to the crime. He was ordered to pay the judicial expenses.
A UAE national national, identified as A.S.K. was sentenced to 18 months in prison for possessing a firearm without a licence, and two bombs. Another UAE national identified as A.K.A.A. was asked to undergo counselling, rehabilitation and subject to monitoring, with a travel ban for six months from the verdict’s date.
The court also reviewed various security cases during its session on Wednesday. Several defendants in these cases were accused of smuggling weapons and banned materials to the UAE.
The prosecution accused another group of defendants of taking photos of sensitive and critical locations in the country. The Appeal Court deferred the cases to issued verdicts and hear the defence lawyers on 12th April.
