9-year-old kids face death penalty in Philippines

Children as young as 9-year-old can face a death penalty in The Philippines if a current bill, sponsored by the Speaker of the country’s parliament and a friend of President Duerte goes through, a BBC report states.

President Duerte campaigned on the promise of reining in crime, especially drug related, but critics, inclusing Uicef, say that less than 2 per cent of 9-year-old or less are invlved in “state crimes” such as ‘glue sniffing’ etc.

If booked, the children face months in prison even if they are released.
