Ahmed bin Mohammed approves National Sports Day for February 16th, 2017

DUBAI, 1st November, 2016 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the High Committee for National Day Sports, has approved the second edition of the event to be held on 16th February, 2017, as part of the GCC Unified Sports Week.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid said that organising this event for the second year running reflected sports awareness in Emirati society, which, he said, has always shown interaction with and attention to sport, considering it a lifestyle.

“Since it was launched by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, last year in order to strengthen cohesion among all community members, this initiative attracted huge participation and is now commemorated all over the UAE,” added Sheikh Ahmed.

The announcement was made during the meeting of the High Committee of the Sports Day chaired by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid, in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and Chairman of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention and Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, Major-General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, Mattar Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairman of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, Ibrahim Abdul Malik, Secretary-General of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, Advisor Mohammed Al Kamali, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, and Major-General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Member of the Executive Office of the of the National Olympic Committee, among others.

During the meeting, Major-General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi was named as a head of the Sports Day Work Team, and will select the members of the team from representatives of strategic partners.

The attendees discussed the steps necessary to ensure a successful event, involving sports, recreational, educational and competitive activities that demonstrate unity and cohesion among all community segments.
