Al Ain International Jiu-Jitsu Championship kicks off

ABU DHABI 12 October 2018: Athletes from all over the world have come to compete in the U18 Al Ain International Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which kicks off Friday at the Al Ain Sports and Cultural Club (AASCC).

The organising committee has designated Day 1 of the tournament for female competition, with Day 2 designated to male athletes. The championship, which is in its fifth session following considerable expansions to the sport has witnessed a substantial turnout of male and female athletes of various ranks and belts to compete in the various categories.

According to the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), registrations for the U18 tournament closed early this season due to having reached the maximum capacity of registrants. Athletes will compete in the tournament on a points-based system to earn the highest number in their category by the end of the 2017/18 season.

The Al Ain International Jiu-Jitsu Championship U18 is part of the 2018/19 season and is included in the UAEJJF World-Rankings, an entity that endeavors to strengthen the presence of Jiu-Jitsu in the community.

With Abu Dhabi as the world’s capital for Jiu-Jitsu, Al Ain has attained a significant percentage of skilled athletes and title-holders in various categories and weight classes, making it a main source of skills and talents for national teams.

Upcoming Competitions

The UAEJJF is making its preparations for the Al Ain International Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship which will be held October 26-27. In November, the line-up for the world of Jiu-Jitsu includes the first round of the Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup on Nov. 10, and the U18 Al Shaheed Jiu-Jitsu Championship from Nov. 22-24.

In December, the ladies-only Mother of the Nation Championship – second round will be held Dec. 14; with the second round of the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup on Dec. 15; followed by the Dubai International Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship Dec. 28-29.
