Arabs held for posting drug clip on social media

DUBAI 13 January 2019: Dubai Police General Command has arrested a group of young men of Arab nationality who, through social media, posted a video clip pretending to use drugs.

They have been transferred to judicial authorities.

Colonel Khalid Ali Bin Mwizah, Acting Director of the General Department of Narcotics Control, emphasized that police teams took action immediately after the video clip spread on social media sites.

The group was seized within hours and transferred to competent authorities to take the necessary measures against them, he said adding that communication and social sites are not platforms to show off abnormal behavior.

Dubai Police monitors social media sites to stop anyone who tries to promote drugs through them. In the past, Dubai Police has been able to deal blows to drug dealers by closing their personal social media accounts in cooperation with competent authorities.

Colonel Khalid bin Mwizah called on the public to refrain from circulating videos on issues related to drug use, as they pose a risk to the health and life of the individual, and have attracted a number of people to experiment with the idea of ​​drug use.

He stressed that Dubai police will strike with a hand of iron whoever tampers with the laws of the state with the intention of dealing, promoting or trading, as well as filming video clips that contribute to the spread of destructive ideas that harm society and contribute to the spread of negative ideas.

And it is mentioned that Federal Law No. (5) of 2012 regarding combating information technology crimes stipulated in Article No. 29 that “punishable by temporary imprisonment and a fine not exceeding Dh1 million for anyone who publishes information, news or data on a website or any information network or technical means Information with intent to harm the reputation, prestige, or standing of the state or any of its institutions. “
