All businesses in Abu Dhabi to have unique identification number

100,000 businesses operating in different fields of economic activity

ABU DHABI 27 March, 2017: The Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi (Added) and Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (Scad) announced the launch the final phase of the Unified Establishments Number Project, which is due for completion by the end of 2017.

The Unified Establishment Number is a 14 character code, with each character encoding one or more of the characteristics of the establishment.

It serves as an ID for the establishment through which it will perform all transactions with government and non-government entities, in a manner similar to the personal ID held by every individual residing in the United Arab Emirates.

The project encompasses all businesses in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi under centralised database. Added’s Business Centre and Scad are working jointly on the project, which is based on the registry of companies operating in the emirate.

It is set to help Abu Government in the digital transformation of economic data on various types of activities, adding that the database the project will use is available with the DED’s Abu Dhabi Business Center, while Scad will develop the project methodology the details included in the companies registration and licensing form.

Khalifa Al Mansouri, acting Undersecretary of the DED, emphasised the importance of the unified establishment number in building an accurate statistical repository of the businesses registered in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for faster production of related statistics, in order to support the emirate’s development plans and meet the diverse needs of decision- and policy makers, the business community and other users.

He further added that the database will constitute the key resource for data analysis, compilation of economic indicators and studies, ensuring easy access to relevant data.

Butti Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Director-General of Scad, said the significance of the project lies in the fact that it an provides an centralised framework for all economic establishments through the creation of a unified identifying code for all types of economic establishments under a central database, a move that would contribute to a more developed statistical system for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Al Qubaisi hailed the collaboration of all the agencies involved in the licensing of economic establishments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which exceed 100,000 businesses operating in different fields of economic activity (commercial, industrial, tourist, etc.)
