Covid-19: UAE airlines offer free ticket changes

By Eudore R. Chand

DUBAI 10 March 2020: All three airlines operating from the UAE — Etihad, Emirates and Air Arabia — are offering free travel date or destination changes in light of continuing travel restrictions because of the spreading Covid-19.

Etihad Airways has announced that it is allowing travellers one complimentary date or destination change for all flights booked between 8th March and 7th April.

The airline said the offer is valid for travel from 22nd March 2020, and is applicable to all fares including Etihad Guest redemptions and Etihad Holiday bookings.

Any fare difference arising from the rebooking/rerouting will be applied, it added.

Emirates free changes

Emirates airline said it has provided its customers, via its global network, with more options and flexibility to adjust their travel dates without incurring fees for changing and re-issuing tickets. This grace policy applies to tickets issued during the period from 7-31 March.

It said within this context, Emirates Skywards provides more flexibility to its members affected by the spread of Coronavirus due to restrictions imposed on travel and reducing the number of flights.

Members of the Platinum, Gold and Silver categories can maintain their categories by reaching 80 percent of the travel requirements for each category between March 31 and June 30. In addition, members who booked their flights between March 1 and June 30 will benefit.

The company has made it clear that it puts the safety and welfare of its customers and employees at the top of its list of priorities, and since last January it activated its emergency response team to monitor the daily developments related to the outbreak of Virus Covid-19, and continuous communication with the relevant health and regulatory authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken.

Emirates airline continues to work closely with all its partners and industry-related bodies to ensure that the safety, comfort and well-being of travelers on its flights are constantly maintained.

Air Arabia introduces new modification fee waiver policy

Air Arabia has announced that it is offering more flexibility to its customers by introducing a new modification fee waiver policy in light of the current travel restrictions and to allow customers the choice of changing travel dates.

According to a press release issued by Air Arabia on Monday, the new waiver policy offers passengers the flexibility to modify their travel bookings without charge and reissuance fees, further underlining Air Arabia’s commitment to providing flexibility and prioritising the convenience of its customers.

Air Arabia customers can change their existing and new bookings made until 31st March, for travel until 31st December, up to 72 hours prior to departure. This applies to all flights across the Air Arabia network from its hubs in the UAE, Morocco and Egypt.

Customers will only need to pay the fare difference, if any, at the time of rebooking their flights.
