Dh370m facelift for Dubai Vegetables and Fruits Market

DUBAI 13 May 2017: Dubai Municipality has begun development works on facilities at Warsan Vegetables and Fruits Market at the cost of Dh370 million.

The project is a major step by Dubai Municipality to improve its services in the internal and external marketing of vegetables and fruits in the Emirate of Dubai and to meet the requirements and necessities for the movement of supply, sale, distribution and export of fruits and vegetables, said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality.

Khalid Sharif Al Awadhi, Assistant Director-General for Environment, Health and Safety Control Sector and Chairman of the Market Development Committee, said the municipality has formed a special committee comprising directors of the departments concerned and a number of specialised technicians.

“The development work includes providing specific tracks for carts, bicycles and pedestrians as well as the separation of the tracks of trucks and other vehicles, organising the activities of sorting vegetables and fruits according to their categories and providing mechanisms for collection and transfer of waste,” Al Awadhi added.

Jumaa Al Fuqae, Director of the Assets Management Department, said the project is designed with all its architectural components according to the latest designs and after referring to the best international practices in the field of markets determining the systems and materials that are environmentally friendly and durable, in addition to achieving the concepts and requirements of sustainability, in line with the Municipality’s vision of building a happy and sustainable city.
